1. Do I need a referral from a health care professional?

No. All you need to do is to contact Dr Wood for an informal discussion of your circumstances and needs. Dr Wood can then discuss with you whether an assessment would be useful, or whether other services would be more appropriate for your needs.

2. How many sessions will I need?

This varies greatly from person to person and depends on the nature of the problem and what the client would like from the sessions.

3. There are a number of therapeutic approaches listed on the website (see here). Which approach will be used for me?

This depends on the nature of the problem, what the client wants, and the way Dr Wood and the client talk during the assessment. After the assessment Dr Wood and the client will discuss the approach that will be used.

4. When are appointments available?

Appointments are generally available week days and Saturday mornings: 10.00-12.30. Out of hours appointments may also be negotiated.

5. What if I need to reschedule or cancel an appointment?

That's not a problem but 48 hours notice is required if a session needs to be cancelled, so that the appointment can be offered to another client. Clients can reschedule appointments by contacting Dr Wood by phone or email. If 48 hours notice is not given then the cancellation incurs a fee of half of the session, to cover admin and rental charges.

6. Are the sessions confidential?

The content of the sessions and client information/notes are kept confidential. There may be some circumstances when confidentiality cannot be kept, such as if the client is at risk of harm to themselves or other people. If this were the case, Dr Wood would always aim to discuss this with the client beforehand.

7. How do I pay?

Self-funded clients can pay before each session or for a number of agreed sessions in advance. Payment is via cash, card, cheque or paypal. See here for information regarding fees.

8. Can I get sessions through my health insurance?

This will depend on the type of cover you have and whether psychological assessment and therapy are included in your cover. It is best to check with your provider prior to the assessment. Dr Wood is a registered provider with BUPA, AXA PPP and AIVA.

9. How do I book an appointment?

Appointments can be booked via phone call or text (to 0797 6419 558) or by email (to cathwood@cathywoodpsychology.co.uk). For the appointment to be confirmed a deposit of half of the appointment fee is required in advance (usually by BACS), this is to cover rental and admin fees and is non refundable if the appointment is cancelled within 48 hours or the appointment is not attended.
